POP-UP DESIGN

Brief:  To culminate in the design of a flexible, temporary pop-up space / mobile interventions / ‘meanwhile use’, which completely aligns with the concept of Circular Economy. The proposal needs to be site specific, responding the existing context of the site whilst celebrating progressive ways design can creatively respond to the climate crisis that defines our era.

Client: Textile & Fashion Enthusiasts, Local fashion businesses and Fashion students of UEL.

Concept:  Anemology.

Strategy & Programme:

‘Apparel Kiosk’ is a temporary use, supported by a long-term vision. The flexibility and simplicity of the fabricated structure are both intended to suit its robust current use of the space and to be easily moved to an alternative location. It explores the relationship between contemporary textile production techniques and traditional learning through making.

The primary educational focus is the design of garments and experimental manufacture of textiles, developing design skills through hands-on experimentation, learning craft techniques, adapting contemporary manufacture technology, with input from regional and international experts.

It is an open-access community workshop in Silver town situated near Grade II listed concrete grain silo, which specialises in fabric and textile processes, with affordable access to tools, space, and on-site technical expertise. The goal of the pop up is to provide resources and professional guidance to those who would not have access to these opportunities otherwise.
